The second webinar in the series “Capacity building and harmonization of scientific diving in Europe – Professional acknowledgment of scientific divers” was held on December 9th, 2020 to explore the legal framework of scientific diving in Europe. There was an informed, dynamic and critical discussion of the developements to be implimented to enhance this aspect of scientific diving supported by expert guest panelists and audience engagement.

Panelists for this webinar included the following experts:
Dr. Massimo Ponti presented extensive information on the background and current applications of scientific diving in Italy. Dr. Ponti holds the titles of Research Manager and Adjunct Professor at the University of Bologna in addition to his role as the President of the Italian Association of Scientific SCUBA Operators (AIOSS).
Dr. Jean-Pierre Féral is an Emeritus with the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS) as Research Director. His educational background is in Biological Oceanography with a PhD in ecophysiology. Dr. Féral also leads the French Polar Institute program PROTEKER which is an underwater biodiversity observatory in the Kerguelen Islands. Currently, he is the President of the European Scientific Diving Panel (ESDP).
