School of Rural and Surveying Engineering

Rural and Surveying Engineering is a broad, multidisciplinary field of geosciences and applied engineering, encompassing aspects of geodesy, surveying, cadastre, photogrammetry, cartography, transportation and hydraulics. The curriculum of the School of Rural and Surveying Engineering provides core and elective courses directly related to the above fields of study that its Departments cover, and every five years it is reorganized to meet the increasing needs in the constantly changing fields of rural and surveying engineering, and keep pace with advances in relevant technology. The School of Rural and Surveying Engineering is divided into three Departments, which coordinate teaching and research in a wide variety of disciplines related to rural and surveying engineering (Geodesy and Surveying; Cadastre, Photogrammetry and Cartography; and Transportation and Hydraulic Engineering).

Laboratory of Topography

The aim of the Laboratory of Topography (LabTop), at the School of Rural and Surveying Engineering is the promotion of Science and Technology in scientific and research areas, as classical and modern topographical surveys, settings and building controls, the drafting of technical specifications for topographic works, control and calibration of topographic instruments. The implementation of property titles and the preparation of expert opinions, the surveys of technical works, as well as architectural constructions and the documentation of monuments and archaeological sites.

The methodologies developed in the Laboratory, in theoretical, analytical, computational, and research, contribute to the advancement and development of science. Consequently, the results of the applied research of the Laboratory are taught at undergraduate and postgraduate level, being important supplies for the new engineers.

Underwater Survey Team

Underwater Survey Team (UST) is an initiative of the LabTop members. It is based on the collaboration between scientists and engineers with the diving community towards the research, the documentation, the study and the promotion of maritime particularities. UST is taking over information and awareness of public, espaecially on underwater cultural heritage matters. The specialized training courses and underwater activities that UST members coordinate or participate are aiming to a safe and responsible approach of the underwater natural and cultural assets.
